Tip #9: It's perfectly acceptable to ask questions. It's also acceptable to blame your spouse for having 15 rapid fire questions. The husband had to finish the project started Labor Day Weekend and today was the day that the template was being done for the granite. The granite guys insisted that the homeowner be here to sign off on the template, so the husband was home. Since he was home, I had some questions and he would be here to ask them. So I know the conversation probably started with, "listen, guys, the wife has been bugging me...". Doesn't matter, I got answers.
Speaking of the Labor Day Project.
The kitchen turned into some other projects. One of those projects included cleaning out from under the pantry, which is open to outside of the house, and insulating. This area has been a huge problem in the winter. The walls have been insulated in this project, but the floor is freezing in the winter, and needed insulation too. The contractors had a dumpster here and were kind enough to let us put the gross stuff from under the pantry in there. That's what you see above.
Around the same time, we ordered closed cell spray foam insulation from a large internet retailer. The granite template was happening today, so the husband took the opportunity to insulate.

This photo shows the underside of the pantry. The layer is roughly 3 inches thick. This is better than what was there. Down the road, we plan to close this space in with some plywood. |

Here's the basement. Our sill plates (I think?) needed to be sealed and insulated. We decided to forego this when the house was insulated a few years back because of the budget, and it's been drafty. But not anymore! |
Here's the other developments for today:

The cabinet above the fridge and the other panel are in. How nice is that? |

This photo is a weird angle. We decided to spring for the under-cabinet lighting. Our cabinets are custom made for our kitchen and the bottoms are flush. There's no overhang at the bottom to hide light ropes. Our contractor came up with this design (and I think he is patenting it). The channel is routed out the bottom and LEDs are run in this groove. Totally cool. I can't wait to see them all lit up! |
