Day Eight

The cabinets are coming!  The cabinets are coming!  How great is that?!  Of course, it'll be Monday before I see them, but they're coming!

Today looked like a busy day for construction.  The floor is covered in that protective layer and there's sheet-rock up in the kitchen now.

I was able to enjoy the floor for one day...but look!!! I have a ceiling.

The pantry now has insulation.  This is huge because it gets downright frigid in there in the winter.  Along the window wall, there's an electric heater that keeps icicles from forming in there.  That's getting an upgrade too, because, at this point, why not?
I've learned quite a bit with this project.  Sure, I've done some projects around the house, and usually I just wing it.  I'm far from an expert in anything renovation related.  I would have thought the walls would go up before the floor.  Not the case.  I saw the wires for the lights, but there's no holes in the ceiling.  I guess those will be cut out later.

I also got a text from one of the contractors today.  Remember this guy?

I wasn't sure what to do with it before.  I had jokingly said something about keeping him and putting him in the wall.  I'm a little superstitious, and this little guy has been part of the house for at least 20 years.  Who's to say that he isn't a good luck?  My contractor agreed.

I apologize for the quality; I'm not sure what happened.  But it looks like our little friend has been buried in the wall.

Tip #8:  If it's going to make you happy, do it.  Burying that guy in the wall is going to give me the piece of mind of not removing a potential "guardian fixture".  My contractor didn't treat me like I was crazy--apparently that's not the craziest thing a client has requested.  I'm going to have to try harder.

Oh!  There are developments in the bedroom.

Here lies the trim from my dresser pedestal.

The pedestal is gone.  That's the original floor color in the converted closet.  The heater line is still there; I'm not entirely sure what they plan to do with it.  All I know is it has to move.

The hole to the kitchen is gone!

But not the hole to the attic.
