Day Seven

Today looks as though it was uneventful.  The tile is done.  Yay!!  But that's all that was finished today.  I was secretly hoping that they would have maybe worked on my bedroom--no such luck.

The floor looks amazing.

Here's the floor.  All done!

I confirmed it.  We can walk on it.  So I went to explore...here's the "hall" to the bathroom.

From the east end of the kitchen.  I'm standing where the stove will be placed.

The new floor in the pantry.

The floor in the bathroom.  We're not sure about the paint now.  I'm going to wait until the trim is up and the toilet gets in there.  I think a defined line will help with the color problem that I am seeing.

I also had a chance to speak to the contractor today.  I got clarification on things that I had been questioning.

Tip #7:  Find a contractor with whom you feel comfortable communicating.  I text my contractor's assistant and she texts me back.  I get all my answers in an efficient and timely manner.  And when I've asked the same question for the 15th time, they don't get frustrated with me.  They're very similar to teachers like that.  The contractor is going to be your expert.  I've relied on my contractor for all sorts of advice during this project (chimney, layout of the space, tile backsplash or granite, the shape of the doors...I could go on).  I think you should at least like talking to them.

I found out that the walls will be finished tomorrow.  I'm unclear about the ceiling, because the hot water heat in my bedroom needs to be rerouted.  Remember this?

My master bedroom.  In shambles.
The insulation is hiding the dresser pedestal that we built last summer.  The pedestal was built to get around the hot water line running through there.  Since the chimney is gone, we have an opportunity to make the bedroom a little bigger.  The line will be moved, the pedestal will be taken out, the floor will be patched flush, and I gain a little bit of room.  I'm sure it's much more complicated than that, but I just can't wait for it to be done, so I can paint and get back into my bedroom.

Tonight's dinner was planned yesterday, so no bickering over that today.  The floor is traversable now; no more walking around the house to get anything we forgot.  Woohoo!  Also, I noticed that there's a face on the lid of the grill...

Chicken and grilled corn on the cob.  See the face in the lid?  I can't decide if it looks confused or shocked.
Want to see something cool?  Of course you do!

Here's the backsplash tile, lined up with the floor grout, which is the color that we're leaning towards for the backsplash.
